This thread will be used to discuss a possible post-antibiotic era.

Antibiotic resistance is spreading and we may be on the verge of loosing the majority of antibiotics as part of the medical toolkit. Thankfully there are traditional means of supporting health that can be utilized in place of antibiotics, and hopefully new solutions will be found to fill the gaps. Implications of the loss of antibiotics may be more diverse than thought: traumatic injury, cancer treatment, organ transplant, kidney dialysis, etc. This forum will be used for all discussions related to the post-antibiotic era.

Todd Caldecott has produced a two-part article that provides a good overview of the issue: Antibiotic resistance: a herbalist’s perspective (1), and Antibiotic resistance: a herbalist’s perspective (2)

Stephen Harrod Buhner has written a book titled Herbal Antibiotics:

With antibiotic-resistant infections on the rise, herbal remedies present a naturally effective alternative to standard antibiotics. Herbal expert Stephen Harrod Buhner explains the roots of antibiotic resistance, explores the value of herbal treatments, and provides in-depth profiles of 30 valuable plants, noting the proper dosages, potential side effects, and contraindications of each.
